There is only one place, where you can ski in Portugal, the slopes at Serra da Estrela. The Serra da Estrela Natural Park is just about 300 km of Lisbon and has, for a few years now, the only ski resort of the country so far. At the Torre, the highest point in mainland Portugal with 1993 meters, you will find a range of blue and red runs and a black one. There is an equipment shop where you can rent all you need to have fun in the snow. Ski season goes from January to March, being February usually the best month. All year round there is a dry ski facility close to the typical village of Manteigas. Along with Guarda, Fundão and Covilhã, Manteigas is a good place to stay. Serra da Estrela Natural Park is located in the largest mountain range in Portugal and is where the rivers Mondego, Zêzere, and Alva are born. The park is the largest natural conservation area in Portugal and occupies about 1,000 km².
